Fun!

My session with this lovely family was just that.  It was fun!  Mom had the perfect locations in mind and they worked beautifully.  It was a chilly morning, but all four family members were troopers.  The fall colors were gorgeous and I am so excited about how these shots turned out!

That pretty much sums up this family.  Back in the beginning of October, I had the pleasure of spending some time with the Campbell Family.  Mom, Amber, is the talent behind Amber Campbell Photography.  You may remember her from last year’s session, or you may remember their sweet twins from this session.  I always look forward to these sessions.  They are the cutest little family!!!  Their oldest is one amazing little boy.  Not only is he smarter than I am, but he is incredibly musical, too.  In fact, he just had his first drum recital and totally rocked it!!!!  I just LOVE hanging out with him!

Anyhow, enough about how amazing and cool they all are….they’re adorable, too. Of course, I went overboard on this sneak peek, but how could I not?!  ENJOY!

Charming.

After many weather mishaps, I was finally able to spend some time with this charming family!  Not only did the weather cooperate, but it was GORGEOUS.  The kiddos are absolutely adorable and SO well behaved, mom and dad were troopers, hiking around with kids and diaper bags in tow and everyone looked fab in their fall attire.  It was perfect!  I am very excited about this sneak peek….there were so many amazing shots to choose from!

To the S family…thank you SO much for traveling to this gorgeous location and for choosing me to photograph your beautiful family.  I hope you enjoy this sneak peek as much as I do!

Love.

You can sense it the instant you meet this adorable family.  The love they feel for one another is undeniable.  They are seriously SUCH a sweet little family.  Very kind, very fun and SO cute.  Little miss J is not only gorgeous, but an incredibly good baby, too!  I had a wonderful time with them and am so glad I had the pleasure of meeting them on that beautiful fall morning.

To the C family…thank you SO much for choosing me to do your family photos.  I truly had a great time and I hope you love your sneak peek!!  It was difficult to choose only a few!

Family Love.

You may remember this cute family from this session last winter or from Mr. G’s newborn session.  Well, time sure does fly.  Mr. G is now walking and as busy as can be!  It’s so much fun to watch him explore when it seems like just yesterday I was holding him as a tiny baby.  When I arrived at the session, mom appeared, looking amazing in a lovely green dress and managed to find a super-cute bow-tie and suspender set for the little man!  Their little family looked SO perfect together!  Seriously, how cute are they?!

Oh my.

I am not quite sure how else to begin this blog post.  I can’t quite form words to express how much I LOVED this family session.  No joke.  Before I even met this family, I loved them.  All of the communication I had with mom leading up to the session was wonderful.  I could tell that she had put SO much thought into our time together and that she truly had an appreciation for photography.  They based their outfits off of the What to Wear post from Stylized Existence. When I arrived at the location on the day of the shoot, I knew it was going to be awesome.  The setting was gorgeous and the light…oh the LIGHT!  It was just dreamy.  I was excited….then the family came out.  They seriously looked like they stepped out of a magazine.  BEYOND adorable.  I went from excited to ecstatic.  The whole shoot was pretty much perfect and I can honestly say I am in love with the images.  I can only hope the family feels the same way and that I was able to capture for them exactly what they were looking for.

To the W family:  Thank you for being awesome!  It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you LOVE your sneak peek (sorry, I got carried away)!

Hello faithful KGP’ers!

Today we have a very special edition of “What to Wear”!  Our dear friend (and favorite stylista), Lauren, is back with some fabulous options for family photos!   After you check out her styling tips, please read below for an opportunity for a FREE SESSION!

Hi KGP fans!  It’s Lauren from Stylized Existence here to give you more outfit inspiration for your upcoming Fall sessions.

Many of Kelly’s clients request rural settings for their photo sessions, so I put together the collection of Fall outfits below with nature in mind.  When someone views your photos, you want their eye to go to your faces, the smiles, the happiness and love that exudes from the photograph.  You want to select your clothing so that, as a whole, it complements your surroundings while allowing the attention to remain on your faces.

The outfits below are truly inspired by nature.  I started building the collection by choosing Mom’s outfit first.  Army vests are a good way to bring in a natural, rugged feel without going too far, and they’re really complementary to any figure.  The vest has a drawstring waist that can be cinched if you want to wear the vest closed, or it can actually hide a midsection if worn open.  Mom’s orange striped shirt to be worn under the vest is a classic piece and blends perfectly with both nature and the army green vest.  In order to not look too outdoorsy, Mom should dress up the look with some pointed toe flats and a gold statement necklace.

Dad’s up next, and generally he is an easy-to-dress client.  A pair of jeans, a nice neutral colored sweater, and a sharp pair of shoes will take care of him.  Pull the army green into Dad’s outfit in the form of an accessory – I chose an affordable, casual Timex watch here.

Now onto the kids, this is definitely where the fun happens.  Don’t be afraid to use some bold colors here, but keep them in line with Mom and Dad’s outfits so that there isn’t discord within the entire group.  I love prints and colors for kids, so I used a little of both here, without overdoing it.  In terms of prints, the boy and baby have gingham, polka dots, and herringbone.  At first thought, this may seem like a lot to mix; however, all of the patterns work together because their colors complement each other – this is KEY! If you are going to mix multiple patterns and colors, use complementary colors.

For the girl, I used a bold, gorgeous yellow for her TOMS shoes, but kept her outfit neutral and pulled the Army green from Mom’s vest into her skirt.  We keep Girl’s outfit from being boring by choosing pieces with different textures throughout her outfit, and her shirt has some added detail.

As you can see, each of the outfits has an element that “works” with an element in another outfit.  Don’t shy away from color, instead, think about your surroundings and embrace those colors by choosing pieces that will work with your surroundings rather than compete with them.  Choose different fabrics and patterns to create depth and interest in the photograph.   If you follow these tips, you will easily have success in choosing your family’s outfits for your upcoming session.

I know that back HERE I promised a sneak peek of the full family, too, and not just the kiddos.  Well, I’ve been really busy, but FINALLY have the sneak peek ready!  We decided to put a more urban spin on the family session, versus the natural setting of the children.  We headed into town and had some fun!  I just love doing urban family shoots.  They were all so cooperative and we certainly had a pretty day for it.
