What To Wear – Couples Edition

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

For this segment of “What To Wear”, I put together outfits that would be great for an urban “couples” shoot.  Kelly wanted a look that was very fashionable and also asked that I incorporate some winter-appropriate pieces into the look because unfortunately, it looks like winter isn’t letting up anytime soon.

Kelly 1
You might as well cooperate with the cold if you want to get your photos taken now, as there are definitely ways to still look great in winter clothing!   I used neutrals for the majority of both outfits, while adding a pop of the same teal color in each outfit.  Generally, I think the woman gets more attention in pictures than the guy because a lot of time the women are more fun to look at – they usually have more interesting clothing!  So to put the guy and girl on an even playing field,  I picked teal as the accent color here because it is a really nice and unexpected color for the man – much more interesting than a navy or beige sweater.  I also found the perfect complement in a fierce shoe for the woman.  The idea is to give the outfit a ”classic” feel overall, but make sure it is vibrant and fun by adding details like the teal colored shoes and sweater.  Also, make sure to dress it up a little; you don’t want to look boring and drab in matching jeans and white button down shirts.  It’s okay to show off a little personality in your outfits, just try to stay away from really busy patterns or writing on your clothing – you want the attention to stay on your face – just use the clothing as a complement!

Fashion Forward: Lauren | Meadville Fashion Photographer

This morning, I had a shoot with the beautiful and ever-so-stylish Lauren of Stylized Existence.  You may recognize her, as she is guest blogger right here on Kelly Gorney Photography, providing my readers with some terrific “what to wear” segments.

She came prepared with some fabulous outfits and we braved the 30 degree temps.  Well, she braved them, I was able to dress warm ;-)  She rocked every outfit she put on and made me feel a bit sad in my trademark jeans, t-shirt and clunky boots.  Haha!   Someday, I need to hire her to take ME shopping!  She is definitely has an eye for fashion!

Lauren, here is a sneak peek of our morning.  I had a great time, thanks for the fun opportunity!  Enjoy your sneak peek!

What To Wear – Two Boys Edition

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Hi KG fans!  It’s Lauren from Stylized Existence, back to do a second What to Wear post!  A client of Kelly’s needed help with outfits for a family of four with two boys, specifically one toddler and one baby, about 6-months in age.  This time I decided to mix argyle and stripes, but keep them in the same color family so that it didn’t take away too much attention from the family’s faces.  I found an adorable arglye sweater vest for the toddler, and paired it with a pair of brown corduroys, a white oxford collared shirt, and to keep it youthful – a pair of white converse-like shoes.  I carried the brown corduroy over to the dad in the form of a blazer, because I like the texture that the corduroy would add to a photograph.  The little boy’s sweater vest has multiple colors in it, including a stripe of yellow, so I pulled that into the dad’s t-shirt that he would wear under the blazer.  Top it off with a pair of nice, dark jeans and some brown driving mocs, and Dad will look casually classic.  For baby, I found a brown and white striped one piece sweater outfit that plays nicely off of the white in the toddler’s shirt and brown in the corduroy pieces on Dad and older son.  For Mom, I pulled the dark purple  color out of the toddler’s argyle sweater, in the form of a tank.  I paired it with a white sweater to go with the toddler’s shirt and the white in the baby’s outfit.  I added a gold necklace, jeans, and some taupe flats.  Remember to keep the outfits playful, don’t be afraid to mix patterns like argyle and stripes, as long as you carry the same colors throughout the outfits.

What To Wear

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Hi there, Kelly Gorney fans! I’m Lauren Corso, writer of the blog Stylized Existence and also Kelly’s brother Joe’s girlfriend!  Since I launched my blog a few weeks ago, Kelly asked me if I would be interested in doing “What to Wear” guest blogs for her site, and of course I jumped at the chance – thanks for the opportunity, Kel!

I know it can be overwhelming getting dressed day-to-day, let alone dressing for photographs that will be hanging above your mantel for years to come!  You certainly don’t want to look back at your photographs and shudder when you see your family wearing what was “trendy” in 2009 but looks silly ten years down the road.

Below is an outfit for each member in a family of four – a man, a woman, a little girl, and a little boy.  Keep in mind that the general idea behind how I chose these outfits is more important than the exact pieces.

Week1

Notice that the family members are all wearing classic pieces of clothing (corduroys, cardigan sweaters, classic jeans) and that I kept the family mostly in neutrals, choosing one color to stand out.  My jumping off point was the little girl’s shirt.  It has corals, oranges, and pinks in it.  I tried to find darker and lighter shades of that focal color for the other family members to wear, so that they blend nicely.    I pulled the orange into the little boy’s sweater, and the pink into the Mom’s sweater, keeping the Dad in shades of brown.

The most important thing is to take away from this outfit is to keep things coordinated, without getting too matchy.  Don’t be afraid to use color or patterns, just make sure when put together, they complement each other.  I hope this can help you put together an idea for your family’s fall photos!

Family shoot with an awesome photographer | Meadville Area Family Photographer

Monday, October 12th, 2009

This past weekend, Bryan, the kids and I headed to Ohio to meet up with a very cool fellow photographer, Amber Campbell.  Amber is in the Cleveland area and specializes in children & family lifestyle photography.  Check her out!  Of course, what photographer get together would be complete without pictures, right?  I got some shots of Amber and her family and she got some of us.  We met up in the cutest little town.  Totally reminded me of Stars Hollow!  It was a great time and we are hoping to do it again, too.  Who knows?  Maybe a coffeehouse edit session is in our near future!

Now, onto the goods!  Here are some pics of Amber’s adorable family!

What to Wear Part 2 | Meadville Family Photographer

Saturday, September 12th, 2009
I had so much fun finding those cute outfits last week that I thought I would have another What to Wear post this week! This time, I found outfits for the whole family.
Dad’s outfit consists of jeans and a chocolate blazer from Old Navy and a great rust colored sweater from Gap.
All three children’s outfits are from Old Navy. Super cute!
Mom’s outfit is from Gap. This was a tricky one because Gap also had an awesome orange colored courderoy skirt that would look fab with a chocolate sweater. So many fun choices this time of year. Makes me want to go shopping, not that I need a reason ;-)
