The W Family

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Oh my.

I am not quite sure how else to begin this blog post.  I can’t quite form words to express how much I LOVED this family session.  No joke.  Before I even met this family, I loved them.  All of the communication I had with mom leading up to the session was wonderful.  I could tell that she had put SO much thought into our time together and that she truly had an appreciation for photography.  They based their outfits off of the What to Wear post from Stylized Existence. When I arrived at the location on the day of the shoot, I knew it was going to be awesome.  The setting was gorgeous and the light…oh the LIGHT!  It was just dreamy.  I was excited….then the family came out.  They seriously looked like they stepped out of a magazine.  BEYOND adorable.  I went from excited to ecstatic.  The whole shoot was pretty much perfect and I can honestly say I am in love with the images.  I can only hope the family feels the same way and that I was able to capture for them exactly what they were looking for.

To the W family:  Thank you for being awesome!  It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you LOVE your sneak peek (sorry, I got carried away)!

XOXO,

Kelly

Meet Lauren.

Well, you kind of already have.  If you’ve followed my blog for any amount of time, you’ve surely seen her fabulous what to wear posts featured.  She has an uncanny ability to put together fashions for any age.  She has styled some wonderful family sessions, too!  The selections from her most recent post will  be featured in a family session coming up this fall!  She has a great blog, Stylized Existence,  that she updates often with AMAZING sets!  My, personal, favorite is Thrifty Thursdays, where she features budget-friendly finds.  Love it!  She also does some special things for her facebooks fans, too.  Reader requests are my favorite!  If you have a piece that you don’t quite know how to wear (or what to wear with it) she’s the one to ask!  Did I mention she is beautiful and sweet, too??  Yep.  She is.  Here’s the proof!  I had the lovely opportunity to photograph Miss Lauren this weekend!  She brought with her a gorgeous clutch, too.  Shame on her for introducing me to something else I want!  This k.slademade bag was SO soft and just perfect!  *sigh*

Okay, okay.  I’ll get to it now.  Heeeeeere’s Lauren!

What to Wear: Family Edition…and a bonus!

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Hello faithful KGP’ers!

Today we have a very special edition of “What to Wear”!  Our dear friend (and favorite stylista), Lauren, is back with some fabulous options for family photos!   After you check out her styling tips, please read below for an opportunity for a FREE SESSION!

What to wear family photos

Hi KGP fans!  It’s Lauren from Stylized Existence here to give you more outfit inspiration for your upcoming Fall sessions.

Many of Kelly’s clients request rural settings for their photo sessions, so I put together the collection of Fall outfits below with nature in mind.  When someone views your photos, you want their eye to go to your faces, the smiles, the happiness and love that exudes from the photograph.  You want to select your clothing so that, as a whole, it complements your surroundings while allowing the attention to remain on your faces.

The outfits below are truly inspired by nature.  I started building the collection by choosing Mom’s outfit first.  Army vests are a good way to bring in a natural, rugged feel without going too far, and they’re really complementary to any figure.  The vest has a drawstring waist that can be cinched if you want to wear the vest closed, or it can actually hide a midsection if worn open.  Mom’s orange striped shirt to be worn under the vest is a classic piece and blends perfectly with both nature and the army green vest.  In order to not look too outdoorsy, Mom should dress up the look with some pointed toe flats and a gold statement necklace.

Dad’s up next, and generally he is an easy-to-dress client.  A pair of jeans, a nice neutral colored sweater, and a sharp pair of shoes will take care of him.  Pull the army green into Dad’s outfit in the form of an accessory – I chose an affordable, casual Timex watch here.

Now onto the kids, this is definitely where the fun happens.  Don’t be afraid to use some bold colors here, but keep them in line with Mom and Dad’s outfits so that there isn’t discord within the entire group.  I love prints and colors for kids, so I used a little of both here, without overdoing it.  In terms of prints, the boy and baby have gingham, polka dots, and herringbone.  At first thought, this may seem like a lot to mix; however, all of the patterns work together because their colors complement each other – this is KEY! If you are going to mix multiple patterns and colors, use complementary colors.

For the girl, I used a bold, gorgeous yellow for her TOMS shoes, but kept her outfit neutral and pulled the Army green from Mom’s vest into her skirt.  We keep Girl’s outfit from being boring by choosing pieces with different textures throughout her outfit, and her shirt has some added detail.

As you can see, each of the outfits has an element that “works” with an element in another outfit.  Don’t shy away from color, instead, think about your surroundings and embrace those colors by choosing pieces that will work with your surroundings rather than compete with them.  Choose different fabrics and patterns to create depth and interest in the photograph.   If you follow these tips, you will easily have success in choosing your family’s outfits for your upcoming session.

Ryah Sofia: The Fall Line

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Fall.

As much as I am enjoying summer, it’s hard to deny the fact the fall is rapidly approaching.  Everywhere you look, fall lines are being released.  I have to admit…it makes me giddy with excitement.  While I LOVE summer, I LOOOOOOVE fall.  The clothes, the accessories, the pretty leaves, the crisp air…it’s delightful!  SO, you can only imagine my excitement when the amazingly talented and SWEET Angie, from Ryah Sofia, asked me to shoot her fall line!  Oh yes!!  I had the joy of picking out some wonderfully fall clothes, a cozy fall setting, beautiful people…the whole nine yards.  It made me SO HAPPY.  Thankfully, I had some AMAZING models to work with.  Not only were they gorgeous and cooperative, but they put up with wearing fall clothes on the ONE 100 degree day we had.  Awesome folks, I tell ya!

When I received the pieces from Ryah Sofia, they blew me away.  Angie never ceases to amaze me with her talent.  The pieces are just gorgeous!  I don’t even know if I can choose a favorite.  If you are unfamiliar with her work, I HIGHLY suggest checking out her site.  I am not even joking when I tell you that EVERY SINGLE TIME my daughter wears a piece from RS, people stop us and ask us about it.  Every time.  Complete strangers.  Compliments galore!  Oh, and I have to be honest here…I wear them, too.  Sometimes I wear my hair to the side and clip a single applique at the base, other times I wear a headband.  They rock.

So, now that I have talked your ear off, I will show you some of the images we were able to get during our shoot.  I would LOVE to hear from you.  If you have had a wonderful experience with Ryah Sofia or if you want to tell me what your favorite applique is, etc, please tell me!

Enjoy the photo overload!!

XOXO,

Kelly

You & Me

You & Me.

That is name given to the FABULOUS new collection from Matilda Jane.  If you are not familiar with them, I HIGHLY suggest checking out this amazing company.  It is one of the most generous and giving companies I have ever encountered.  EVER.  Oh, and they have really cute clothes that photograph beautifully :-)

Today, I hosted a trunk show to celebrate the release of their fall line.  As usual, they did not disappoint.  The clothing is stunning and the presentation is as unique and beautiful.  Our trunk keeper, Shana, is AMAZING.  She always goes above and beyond.  She brought goodies for the guests and humored my son, who has a GIANT crush on her.  Seriously.  He was giddy when he heard she was coming to the house again.  It’s quite cute.  She deals with my endless texts, emails and phone calls and looks past my ditzy-ness while I am running around doing last minute preparations.  I adore her.

I managed to grab a couple quick shots of Shana’s lovely display and some other miscellaneous details while I was running around.  I forgot to get shots of the food before it disappeared.  There was lemonade, sweet tea, various finger sandwiches and wraps as well as other goodies.  The main event was definitely the clothing, though.  I am BEYOND excited for them to come in!

To EVERYONE who attended, THANK YOU for coming.  I had a great time and hope you did as well.

To Shana, thank you, again, for everything!  You rock!!!

Matilda Jane will be celebrating the release of their fall line, You & Me, NEXT week!  I, for one, am SUPER excited about it.  I will be hosting a trunk show, at my house, next Tuesday, August 2nd, from 12-2.  If you would like more information or would like to RSVP, please email me.  If you were hoping to place an order, but are unable to attend, you will be able to email your order.  They will have amazing styles for children and mamas, alike!

PLUS, if you spend $100 or more (not including tax and shipping) at the trunk show, you will receive a free mini session on September 14th (location to be determined) with Kelly Gorney Photography

Session will be approximately 20 minutes long and include two images (with printing release) uploaded to an online lab.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
