Madison: Class of 2012

September 6th, 2011

Beautiful.

I recently had the chance to photograph not one, but TWO amazing senior girls.  Twins, to be exact.  I’m sure, like any siblings, they have their moments, but for the time I was with them, they seemed to have a bond.  Maybe not a “hey, we’re bff’s and wear the same thing every day” kinda bond, but a very nice, comfortable bond.  I have always wished I had a sister, but now I want a TWIN sister!  HOW FUN!

Miss Madison is a stunningly beautiful, sweet, smart, athletic girl.   She has great taste in clothes, too!  She put up with me dragging her all over for the shots and still managed to smile.  Did I mention how cute she is?!  We spent a somewhat dreary morning together and it was awesome.  I had SUCH a great time with she and her sister both.

Madison:  Thank you SO much for choosing ME to do your senior pictures.  I had a blast and am so excited to get to editing all of your images!   Enjoy your sneak peek!

Picture This: Take 2

September 6th, 2011

Wall Galleries.

Many people love the look of a wall gallery, showcasing their favorite images from a session (or from several sessions), but some people have a difficult time planning out the arrangement.  We have helped several clients lay out the perfect galleries for their spaces.  This is one of those spaces.  My client knew exactly which wall she wanted to use, but didn’t know how to make it work.  She had an idea of which images she wanted to use and knew she wanted them in black and white.  I went over and took a picture of her space and then digitally inserted the images in the layout that I had in mind.  She made a couple minor changes and we soon had the gallery layout she wanted!

In this instance, eight 12×12 mounted prints were used to fill the space.  Here is the end result:

Alexa: Class of 2012

August 31st, 2011

Gorgeous.

There really is no other way to describe this fun senior I had the chance to work with this week.  She is just…gorgeous.  Oh, and sweet and funny and talented.  Did I mention what an AWESOME relationship she has with her mom, too?  Yup!  They were SO cute together!  I love how they were sharing clothes, shoes and jewelry…reminds me a lot of my mom and I.  She came prepared with SO many great outfits and loads of accessories.  My kinda girl!!  Turns out she and I have a few things in common, too…we both showed horses!  It was so much fun chatting with her while we trekked from location to location.  We had an absolutely beautiful day for it, too.  The lighting was soooo nice.

To Alexa:  Thank you SO MUCH for choosing me to do your senior pictures.  I had a wonderful time with you and I look forward to seeing you again in the fall.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

XOXO,

Kelly

Miss N and Mr. M

August 29th, 2011

Big Bowser.

For anyone who knows anything about Wii (or Nintendo, if you are like me) you are at least somewhat familiar with the characters of Super Mario Brothers.  Well, upon entering this session, Mr. M said I was Big Bowser.  Not just regular Bowser, but BIG Bowser.  He was, at best, underwhelmed by the idea of having his picture taken.  Thankfully, I grew up in a house full of boys.  All it took is throwing one little stick to get him to smile.  Apparently, throwing sticks is cool :-)  Let’s just say that, by the end of the session, I had upgraded to Yoshi.  I am totally cool with that. :-)

These two kiddos were SO cute and funny and I had a great time with them!  We had a gorgeous day and the session went SO WELL!

To mom: thanks so much for putting up with my lovely dancing and singing!  I had a fantastic time and hope you love your sneak peek!!!

XOXO,

Kelly

Lauren: Stylized Existence

August 22nd, 2011

Meet Lauren.

Well, you kind of already have.  If you’ve followed my blog for any amount of time, you’ve surely seen her fabulous what to wear posts featured.  She has an uncanny ability to put together fashions for any age.  She has styled some wonderful family sessions, too!  The selections from her most recent post will  be featured in a family session coming up this fall!  She has a great blog, Stylized Existence,  that she updates often with AMAZING sets!  My, personal, favorite is Thrifty Thursdays, where she features budget-friendly finds.  Love it!  She also does some special things for her facebooks fans, too.  Reader requests are my favorite!  If you have a piece that you don’t quite know how to wear (or what to wear with it) she’s the one to ask!  Did I mention she is beautiful and sweet, too??  Yep.  She is.  Here’s the proof!  I had the lovely opportunity to photograph Miss Lauren this weekend!  She brought with her a gorgeous clutch, too.  Shame on her for introducing me to something else I want!  This k.slademade bag was SO soft and just perfect!  *sigh*

Okay, okay.  I’ll get to it now.  Heeeeeere’s Lauren!

What to Wear: Family Edition…and a bonus!

August 15th, 2011

Hello faithful KGP’ers!

Today we have a very special edition of “What to Wear”!  Our dear friend (and favorite stylista), Lauren, is back with some fabulous options for family photos!   After you check out her styling tips, please read below for an opportunity for a FREE SESSION!

What to wear family photos

Hi KGP fans!  It’s Lauren from Stylized Existence here to give you more outfit inspiration for your upcoming Fall sessions.

Many of Kelly’s clients request rural settings for their photo sessions, so I put together the collection of Fall outfits below with nature in mind.  When someone views your photos, you want their eye to go to your faces, the smiles, the happiness and love that exudes from the photograph.  You want to select your clothing so that, as a whole, it complements your surroundings while allowing the attention to remain on your faces.

The outfits below are truly inspired by nature.  I started building the collection by choosing Mom’s outfit first.  Army vests are a good way to bring in a natural, rugged feel without going too far, and they’re really complementary to any figure.  The vest has a drawstring waist that can be cinched if you want to wear the vest closed, or it can actually hide a midsection if worn open.  Mom’s orange striped shirt to be worn under the vest is a classic piece and blends perfectly with both nature and the army green vest.  In order to not look too outdoorsy, Mom should dress up the look with some pointed toe flats and a gold statement necklace.

Dad’s up next, and generally he is an easy-to-dress client.  A pair of jeans, a nice neutral colored sweater, and a sharp pair of shoes will take care of him.  Pull the army green into Dad’s outfit in the form of an accessory – I chose an affordable, casual Timex watch here.

Now onto the kids, this is definitely where the fun happens.  Don’t be afraid to use some bold colors here, but keep them in line with Mom and Dad’s outfits so that there isn’t discord within the entire group.  I love prints and colors for kids, so I used a little of both here, without overdoing it.  In terms of prints, the boy and baby have gingham, polka dots, and herringbone.  At first thought, this may seem like a lot to mix; however, all of the patterns work together because their colors complement each other – this is KEY! If you are going to mix multiple patterns and colors, use complementary colors.

For the girl, I used a bold, gorgeous yellow for her TOMS shoes, but kept her outfit neutral and pulled the Army green from Mom’s vest into her skirt.  We keep Girl’s outfit from being boring by choosing pieces with different textures throughout her outfit, and her shirt has some added detail.

As you can see, each of the outfits has an element that “works” with an element in another outfit.  Don’t shy away from color, instead, think about your surroundings and embrace those colors by choosing pieces that will work with your surroundings rather than compete with them.  Choose different fabrics and patterns to create depth and interest in the photograph.   If you follow these tips, you will easily have success in choosing your family’s outfits for your upcoming session.
